Virtual Reality. The next step in education

Because the process of teaching is evolving and we are looking for new ways to educate our youngsters and ourselves. The need to use visual aids in order to understand the science behind an object is very old and through time has evolved but the most significant technological jump has been registered after the COVID-19 pandemic when a new door was opened and every domain started imagining new ways of integrated the technologies that came to be our daily routine, into their activities. The most noteworthy technology that made a significant advance was Virtual Reality.

The use of virtual reality in learning was until now a thing from movies but the advances made in the last couple of years have made it possible that all the schools could have at least one virtual reality headset.

Besides the obvious advantages of visualizing the things that science only explains in theory like the working of an engine seen from the inside, the composition of matter at a molecular level and other interesting things, virtual reality has the advantage of:

  • Increasing memory power and knowledge retention
  • Boosting excitement and engagement in the classroom
  • Improving learning outcomes
  • Focusing student attention on the lesson
  • Opening up new opportunities and creating accessibility for every student
  • Improving understanding of complex, conceptual subjects
  • Building emotional intelligence, awareness and understanding
  • Improving communication and collaboration skills

The educational process is evolving and projects like „Teachers in action” organized in Plovdiv, Bulgary and present on the Creative Digital Transformation Map have the potential to be a bridge for the teachers to the digitalisation of the education field.

So, in summary, virtual reality helps education by creating immersive lessons that are engaging, memorable and impactful for students. These VR experiences improve learning outcomes and help students build important interpersonal skills such as empathy, collaboration, and social skills needed for the future. Virtual reality is a hugely powerful teaching tool and the future of education!
